How we handle your information.

We collect as little as we need, we say what it is for, and you can ask us to delete it. This page explains it in plain language.

Who we are

Maleek Studios is a technology studio based in Lagos, Nigeria. We build games, websites, automation and connected devices. We decide why and how the information described here is used, which makes us the controller of it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Questions or requests about your information go to maleekstudios.ent@gmail.com.

What we collect, and why

When you visit the site. We count visits so we know which pages are useful. For each page you open we record the page address (without anything after a question mark), the website that sent you here, any campaign tag on the link you used, your device type (phone, tablet or computer) and the country your connection comes from. We do not store your IP address or your browser details with these records. To count how many different people visited in a day, we create a short code from your address and browser that changes every day and cannot be turned back into either. We cannot follow you from one day to the next. We ignore visits where your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Our reason is running and improving the site.

To stop abuse. Our forms limit how many times one internet address can submit in a short period. These counters include the address, and we delete them within two days.

When you send a message. We keep your name, email address, subject, message and anything else you type, such as a budget or the service you are asking about. To protect the form from spam we also record your IP address and browser details with the message. If you arrived through a tagged campaign link we keep that tag, so we know which campaign led to the message. We use this to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation.

When you join the newsletter or a waiting list. We keep your email address, your name if you gave it, which form you used, any campaign tag, and when you agreed. We use it to send you the updates you asked for. You can ask us to remove you at any time. This is based on your consent.

When you apply for a job. We keep your name, email address, phone number, links, cover letter and CV. Only the people at the studio who review applications can see them, and your CV is stored privately. We use them only to consider you for the role you applied for.

If you are a client. We keep your contact details, the projects and files we share with you, your messages to us, your approvals and feedback, and your invoices and payments. This is so we can do the work we agreed to do and keep proper business records.

Signing in. Team members and clients who sign in have an account with an email address and a password. We never see your password in readable form.

Cookies and storage on your device

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. A few small things are kept on your device:

  • If you sign in to the client portal or the team area, cookies keep you signed in. Visitors who do not sign in never receive them.
  • Your choice of light or dark mode is remembered on your device.
  • If you arrive through a campaign link, the campaign tag is kept in your browser until you close the tab, so we can tell which campaign led to an enquiry.

Some project pages show a YouTube video. The picture you see is loaded from YouTube. The video player itself only loads when you press play, and then it uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube's own policy applies from that point.

Who else handles your information

We use a small number of services to run the site. They handle information on our behalf.

  • Supabase stores our database, uploaded files and sign-in details. Our project is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • Vercel hosts the website and delivers it to you from servers around the world.
  • Resend sends the emails we send, such as replies, receipts and invoices.

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights if someone abuses the site. Because these services run outside Nigeria, your information may be processed in other countries. We choose providers that protect it to a high standard.

How long we keep it

  • Visit records: we keep them for as long as they help us understand how the site is used. They do not identify you.
  • Messages: we keep them while we are working on your request and afterwards as a record, until you ask us to delete them.
  • Newsletter and waiting list sign-ups: until you ask us to remove you.
  • Job applications: we review stored applications at least once a year and delete the ones we no longer need. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.
  • Client records: for as long as we work together, and afterwards for as long as the law requires us to keep financial records.

Keeping it safe

Information moves between you and us over an encrypted connection. Access to messages, applications and client files is limited to the people who need it, CVs and client files sit in private storage, and our team signs in with two-step verification. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care, and we will tell you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if a breach puts your information at serious risk.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy
  • correct information that is wrong or incomplete
  • delete your information, or stop using it, in the cases the law allows
  • stop using your information for something you object to
  • give you your information in a format you can take elsewhere
  • stop sending you updates, by withdrawing your consent at any time

Email maleekstudios.ent@gmail.com and tell us what you would like. We may need to confirm who you are first. We will reply within a month. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Children

The site is not aimed at people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this page

If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. For anything that matters to you, such as a new use of your email address, we will ask you first. You can also read our terms of use.
